My approach to therapy is individualized based on the needs of each unique person. I provide insight-oriented therapy with the belief that you, the client, are the expert on your life and that my role is to provide guidance and input on your journey. While my approach is influenced by psychodynamic theory, I also utilize cognitive-behavioral and emotion-focused interventions, depending on the needs of the client. I also think it is important to gain insight into family dynamics and to understand how the past continues to influence thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the present.
My therapeutic style is warm, interactive, and empathetic. You can expect to be treated with care and respect. You can count on authenticity, an appreciation of where you have been, and an objective and non-judgmental stance. My hope is that therapy is a place for you to slow down, receive support and guidance, and better understand your experiences.
Psychotherapy outcome studies stress one important point. Clients and therapists must be a good fit for a positive result, which is why I offer a free 30-minute consultation. During this session you will have the opportunity to discuss the challenges you’re facing in your life. You’ll also be able to get a sense of me and how I work and we’ll determine whether or not we feel like a good match. If for whatever reason we do not end up working together, I always have referrals available.
